American street artist Joe Iurato is internationally known for his small wooden cutouts that narrate stories about the pathway from childhood to adult life. Taking inspiration from his own life, he catchs his children growing up and their interaction with the urban environment. Starting from these two elements: the reality of a big city on the background and the investigation on the human perspective on the other side, Iurato creates site-specific small figures that communicate with surroundings. He uses layers of hand cut paper and spray paint to give life to his figures, blending the old-fashioned printing process with one of the modern street art techniques, the stencil. His energetic characters are captured having adventures, climbing trees or sailing boats, as we can see here in Wynwood, Miami. But also, Iurato shows them having a more introspective and emotional attitude, to explore significant values such as friendship, love, understanding and more, telling heart-warming tales about human experience.
